Delaware Issues Common Sense and gets Spicey

Everyone should know that when a snake's pupils are round and human like they are safe.  If the pupil is cat like, you better watch out.  There is likely to be venom.  Everyone should also know, that when a friend goes to Budapest and comes home saying BUDAPESHT, and is so kind as to bring you back Sweet Paprika from Hungary in a RED package, with a wooden spoon no less, it is time to toss the orange and yellow packaged, DURKEE you got at the flea market.  Thank you Ellen.

WOW, what kinda red is that?  oh ya that is the kind you make in photoshop CS3

 

 

Some folks think that photoshopping work has no place in PURE PHOTOGRAPHY...I could not disagree more.   Lots of folks take pictures of Palms in all kinds of compositions.  I wanted it to be RED and unique in its presentation.

 

I just feel like you can add so much to photography by accepting it as an art form, that is subject to modification in the camera, out of the camera, in the dark room, in any of the multitude of post processing software out there. I usually organize or, try anyway, in Windows Live, and make any minor modifications there.  Then I take it to CS3 for any major modifications like the one tomorrow...wonder if anyone can tell where I layered two images together, oh...I guess you will have to wait til tomorrow?  Cracking myself up here.

Delaware Views Hues of RED...I MEAN REALLY IT IS EVERYWHERE

Appears as if I dropped my reds yesterday, but have no fear, RED IS EVERYWHERE.  It really is.  I saw so much red at Art All Night; in the good works of the people, in the advertising for the event, in my Chinese food dinner, and draped on the bodies of so many of the attendants.  What I think may have excited me most was taking notice of some of the old red brick that made up the building that contained the event and some of the surrounding buildings: this one in particular fenced off with a sign indicating it was under some sort of environmental investigation. Art Works on one side of the street, this on the other.   Trenton was at one time such a vibrant, healthy, and wealthy capital community...I wonder if there is enough power in the people and the arts to vibrate it back to that position.

Still thinking of my mother this day after the Hallmark Holiday.  I don't need it to be devoted to her.  She is 84 now.  She gave birth to me, her third and final child, when she was 27.  She taught me self discipline, kindness, laughter, and to always look at the bright side.  Together, with my father they instilled in me self confidence and an appreciation for family.  One of her many favorite lines I hear now..."blood is thicker than water".   These are gifts I will carry with me for ever.  She tried to teach me style and fashion, something she continues to express herself, but had a failure there with me.  Next month she will undergo hip surgery and I will be there by her side.

Here she is in her glory, among members of her extended family.  27 years after my father passed, she still keeps in touch with his cousins, who she was always fond of and graciously prepared feasts for.  And now she has the pleasure of being with their children and sharing another feast that she doesn't have to prepare.

In the winter I so enjoy making a good hearty soup.  As the weather warms I want to eat local fruit.  There will never be pineapples growing naturally in my area, but soon the strawberries will be in and the blueberries will be local and there is nothing like it.  There will be NO WHITE in the strawberries and if you pick them yourself from a local farm on a warm sunny day they will be RED and warm and delicious when you eat them.

I find this hysterical.  Trenton will be putting on a Pork Roll Festival in May and I think I just might have to go.

 

Turns out with the upcoming event an old controversy has sparked a new flame.  I am hoping I might be able to end it right here, right now. There are two brands of PORK ROLL, Cases and Taylor and although people may refer to it as TAYLOR HAM...it is still pork roll and so it says on the RED package when you buy it.

It took me a long time to get over my Photo Shop phobia.

Now I love playing with color in CS3.  I like the Wave filter.  Filter, Distort, Wave.

Then a little slip and slide on the scales.

I can hardly believe I can instruct as such.

Sunday Funday

It has been a crazy week here.  We lost electricity on Wednesday due to snow and ice, which caused trees to fall, and humans to forget their sanity.  Oh the damage both can do.  The ice did provide some nice visuals and even though it has been very, very cold here the sun has shined for a few days in a row.  Cant wait until the power comes back on and we can silence the generators.

Delaware Issues Common Cents

Everybody has a little spot of sunshine somewhere.  It could be in a backyard garden, a flower pot, or even on a window sill.  Herbs are some of the easiest things to grow.  I have fresh parsley, thyme, sage, and cayenne pepper, along with some others, growing all summer long.   I get little potted plants in the beginning of the growing season and transplant them into large pots or directly in the ground. I like to keep the parsley in a pot by the back door so I can grab a few leaves after a meal to freshen my breath.  At the end of the season or during, if a particular plant is abundant, I bunch them up and hang them to dry.  For just a few dollars each, I can have fresh herbs all summer long, dried herbs throughout the winter, and I can mix them up to my taste for almost any recipe I wish to make.  Maybe Ill share with you some of these concoctions on Foodie Friday.

Delaware Views RED at the Covered Bridge Artisans 19th Annual Holiday Studio Tour

 

It was a beautiful day to take a ride to the Cultural Arts Center in Seargentsville, NJ and visit  studios on the Covered Bridge Artisans  19th Annual Studio Tour.  Several Artists had their crafts displayed at the Center. Beautiful glass ornaments,  wood bowls,  pottery, home spun wool, jewelry and more to choose from at the first stop. 

 

It was our decision to be selective on this day so rather than follow the provided map and visit all the studios on the tour, we made our specific selections and went on to Timothy Martin's Studio in Stockton.  We were WOWED by his fantastically fun and whimsical paintings and personality. 

 

Heading back towards the river I just had to stop. Well, it was the Covered Bridge tour after all, and to my surprise and pleasure I managed to snap off a few with this happy, waving bicycle rider as he passed through. The wreath provided just the amount of necessary RED.

 

 

It is hard for me to believe that I have lived in this region for over 40 years and never stopped at the Prallsville Mill. 

 

 This is where Ty Hodanish has his studio and gallery. 

 

 

 

Being that Impressionism is one of my favorite styles it was a real pleasure to view his work.

Not only was he a delight to chat with but just have a look...he was wearing RED.
