Delaware Clues: Common Cents at the Met

There is a not so well kept secret for regular visitors to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, and quite a few other museums that are well funded by memberships and endowments.  Did you know that the admission fee is RECOMMENDED?  Do you know what that means?  It means that you DONT HAVE TO PAY IT.  I love this Museum and depending on how long I plan to stay is fully considered when I open my wallet. If I plan to stay all day, I will pay the full $25 recommended admission.  If I am only visiting one or two exhibits, as is often the case, I adjust my admission cost accordingly.  If I plan to shop in one of the museum stores, I never pay more than $10. admission.

Go! Have fun! Pay what you can afford.

Delaware Hues of Red

Not exactly sure what made me look up.  Perhaps my eyes were drawn to the light. Then I saw the lines of the shades and shadows, and the little red ribbons.

Sunday Funday

It is unlikely to be too much fun today as the rain is coming and the river will be rising.

I did however have a lot of fun yesterday when I met members of my family for lunch that I have not seen in way too long.  The Lambertville Station was the perfect venue and the service was perfectly invisible.  Funny thing about family is that even if you don't see them in a long while the similarities and comfort level is always there.  We all ordered the same cocktail.

Laural, Josh, Fala, Ralph, Nancy, Robert, Ben, Janice, Rita, Marcia

My mother was in her glory on this day as spending time with her family is one of her greatest joys.

I have not had the pleasure of seeing these young men since they were little boys.

Josh

Ben

Soon there will be another member of our family as Ben has a fiancé.

Patience with me and my camera was waning as the sun glared and prepared to set.  My mom likes
to be on her way so she can drive home before dark.
Sometimes it absolutely sucks being the photog because I rarely get into the pictures.

I clipped this from the above so my sister and mother could be alone together for
a moment.

Delaware Views In The News

On occasion I have the pleasure of adding to my favorite links list new places where my work is published.  I am now pleased  to include the Bucks County Herald to the list.  I made the last page in the last issue.  That makes me giggle.  The funny thing is that I picked up the paper and looked through the whole thing and missed it on the last page.  Dan the proprietor of Seasons Garden Center, also a favorite link, had to tell me and thank me after seeing it.  That's Dan's sister up in the bucket raising the holiday lights on the Washington Crossing Park Tree.

Foodie Friday Yummy Treats

Chocolate covered pretzels are just so yummy.
They are one of those things that I like to treat myself to
on occasion, and would never think of making them at home.  Some things are just like that.
They taste better when they are a gift.

I WAS GOOD

I was rewarded over and over yesterday.
Starting with delicious sticky buns for breakfast.
Thank you Pat

Well you didn't expect a picture did you?  WE ATE THEM.

Furman keeping the fire going and allowing us all to bask in the warmth and glow of it.

Towards the end of the day we were rewarded with a magnificent sky.

Ya, I musta been good.

Reliving History on a Christmas Day

The Crowds Gathered

the military marched.

The oarsman prepared the boats to be launched.

Against the current they rowed.

When they reached the other side a spontaneous cheer rose from the crowd.

Sunday Funday

Well not exactly Sunday but Saturday Night!
We have the best neighbors and last night a group had gathered for some good
ole fashion festivities.  Good food, good cheer, followed by some caroling.
Thank you Liz

Delaware Views ONE MOON

I watched it set in the western sky.

Then I turned to the east.  As the moon was descending the sun was about to rise.
It was just too cold out there to hang out and wait for it to shine out above the trees
with its full force of light.

I waited till night.  It must have been chasing the sun.  There it was ascending in the eastern sky.
The moon will never catch the sun, but I'm glad it continues to chase it.  What is it that draws our attention to the rising and setting of these orbs moving solo through the sky?

Foodie Friday Garlic

Seems I have been out to eat a lot but cant say I have been to any place new to review for you.
Visited Lambertville twice this week, eating breakfast at the Full Moon and lunch at Cross Cultural on Kline Street.  Had Dinner last night at the Washington Crossing Inn.  In fact, it was there that I learned to love Roasted Garlic and when I love a food, I want to eat it and that means I have to make it.

The easiest way I found to roast garlic is to simply wrap it in foil with a dab of butter and a splash of water and maybe a pinch of dried thyme.and pop it in the oven about an hour before dinner.  Most recently, I had the occasion to whip up a bunch.  I like to slice the pointy tips of the tops by cutting one third off the bulb.  If any cloves are beneath that cut I prick off the tops with the tip of my knife.   In this instance I lined a small baking dish with foil, topped and pricked 3 cloves and threw the tops in the foil as well.  These are great to nibble on when squeezing the cool whole cloves from their papery skins.  Sometimes I drizzle oil and sometimes I top each clove with a teaspoon or so of butter.  Pour in just enough water to cover the foil, wrap and bake for about 45 minutes at 350.  Let cool and squeeze out the cloves. If you don't eat it all right up on fresh crusty bread, it can be stored in a small jar with a bit of oil.

I should probably mention that it is possible that some of the most desired benefits of eating garlic maybe decreased by heating it this way....but it is so delicious.

Sing at the Top of Your Lungs

I have been trying to figure out how to get more folks to view this blog.
I suppose it would help if I viewed other blogs and took notice of what I find appealing.
Thanks Ruthy for directing me to Susan Branch. Shows me how far I have to go.

For now, I'm thinking of a schedule and I like the idea of a Thursday PHOTOSHOP Day
This image required cutting and pasting, layers and masks,  text, and free transform.
If anyone is interested in more information comment and I will elaborate.
The original image was taken of a shop front in New Hope during a snow flurry.
The modifications were made in Photoshop CS3.

Delaware Views Red

Red is everywhere...

I look back on the past days and see red on the Sherry label,
and there on the  bottom of a shoe.  I even see it on a hand carved wooden canoe.

There it is on the snow blower
and there it is in  abstract.  Its there on the Crab Apple and that's a fact.

Hey Susan  Thanks for your views

Foodie Friday Mushroom Barley Soup

I generally like to take before and after pictures or at least the process when I present the food from home.  I had such an urge for some Mushroom Barley Soup revised from the Mollie Katzen original Moosewood Cookbook, that I got started before thinking.  Barley in the pot, onions in the food processor, mushrooms in the sautĂ© pan and if you are going to do this, get yourself some real Sherry.

And just because it was such a beautiful morning on the river, I thought I would share the Delaware View
