Israel Day 8

As I sit here to write these words I can hear the call to Muslim pray from the tower nearby that glows green in the sky....as the singing voice carries it's message across the rooftops.

We took it pretty easy today.  Ate breakfast in the apartment and then walked for about 1/2 hour to the Carmel Market where you can buy almost anything you can imagine. Candy, fruit, breads and spices, clothing used and new...and on and on...like the market itself which is many blocks.  There was also a craft market today that covered several blocks and it was fun to wander around.

We relaxed over lunch and afterwards we got ourselves to the area of the Tel Aviv University where there are many museums.  Went into the Museum of the Diaspora but did not really have enough time to get the full impact as yesterday our guide made us a reservation for a tour at the Palmach Museum and we did not want to be late.  I have provided the link if you want to learn more.  It was a museum like none I have ever been in and I'm not sure I can explain it well. It told the story of the young fighters who fought for the independence of this country in such a way that by the end of the visit we felt like we knew these brave young men and women soldiers.  The flags of the country were proudly displayed there.

When we returned to the area of our apartment we saw other flags proudly displayed with people chanting.  With my American mind I thought it might be an Occupy situation and then I realized they were waving Palestinian flags.  Of course, I could not understand the chanting and they did not get much attention, other than from a few photographers like me and some horn toots from the drive bys.

I want to thank Pat and Robin for your kind comments on the blog.  Also to Ruth, Jess and Marcia for your kind words.  Aaron, havent heard lately from you....hope all is  well.
Peace and warmth and sweet candy and hugs to all.

  3. Riding along as Jim drives the 3 hrs to tommor's shoot and catching up on your blog. I've heard the Iman's call to prayer in Turkey long ago, but it is something I can still hear. Trying to imagine the colors, sounds, and smells of the market. I can't imagine the emotion of the museum. Enthralled by every image you post
